Why we live: happiness and holiness
The essential idea
Human beings are made for goodness and happiness, but lasting happiness goes deeper than fleeting pleasure. The Beatitudes show a path of trust, mercy and fidelity even in difficulty.
Questions and explanations
Why is happiness more than comfort?
Comfort can be good but is fragile. Christian blessedness springs from love, truth and fidelity even when life is difficult.
What is holiness?
Holiness is friendship with God, open to grace. It is not a flawless appearance but a continually converted heart.
Why does Jesus call the grieving blessed?
He does not praise suffering for its own sake. He promises God’s nearness to those who seek justice and peace without surrendering hope.
Can everyone seek holiness?
Yes. Holiness is not reserved for monasteries; it is lived in family, work, study and care for others.
Scripture references
Mt 5:1-12, Jn 15:9-12
In everyday life
A person who works honestly and helps a colleague can live the Gospel without grand speeches.
