Parish catechetical course · 01 / 27 · YOUCAT question topics 1–2
Why are we here, and why can we believe?
The essential idea
Human life is more than success or pleasure. We seek truth, love and a meaning that endures through difficulty. Christianity answers this longing with the good news of a God who desires a personal relationship with us.
Questions and explanations
What gives life its deepest meaning?
We are called to know God, love God and our neighbours, and freely choose the good. Hope for eternal life gives meaning to our daily responsibilities rather than diminishing them.
Why is faith not an escape from reason?
Faith does not forbid questions. It invites the mind to seek truth and the heart to trust the God revealed in Jesus Christ.
How is faith related to love?
Living faith changes what we do. Knowing correct words about God is not enough; faith calls us to notice needs, forgive and serve.
How can I begin seeking God?
Begin with an honest question and a few minutes of sincere prayer. Read the Gospel, attend the Divine Liturgy and speak with people whose faith bears good fruit.

For reflection
- What gives my life meaning today?
- What act of kindness could answer God’s love?
A step to take
Read John 17:3 and name one person you can help today.
