Jesus Christ, our Saviour
The essential idea
At the centre of Christian faith stands not a theory but Jesus Christ, true God and true man. His life, death and Resurrection reveal divine love and offer humanity hope of salvation.
Questions and explanations
Why do we call Jesus the Son of God?
In him God reveals himself decisively. Christ does not merely teach about the Father; he is the eternal Son who became human for our salvation.
Why does the Incarnation matter?
The Son truly assumes human nature without ceasing to be God. Our work, grief, friendship and embodied life therefore matter to God.
What does Christ’s Cross mean?
Jesus freely gives himself in love. The Cross exposes evil while revealing God’s faithfulness to humanity even in the face of death.
Why is the Resurrection the ground of hope?
The Church proclaims that death does not have the final word. Christ’s Resurrection opens new life and calls us to live in its light already today.
Scripture references
Jn 1:1-18, Phil 2:5-11, 1 Cor 15:3-8
In everyday life
When someone is grieving, do not rush to ready-made explanations. Presence, prayer and practical help can witness to Christ’s nearness.
For reflection
- Where do I recognise God’s love in Christ?
- How does the Resurrection reshape my response to difficulty?
A step to take
Read Philippians 2:5–11 and pray for someone facing hardship.
In the UGCC tradition
Eastern spirituality expresses the Incarnation and Resurrection especially through icons and hymnography. An icon is not simply decoration; it helps the faithful contemplate Christ in prayer.
