Parish catechetical course · 02 / 27 · YOUCAT question topics 3–6
The human person is called to God
The essential idea
Our desire for happiness and truth is not a random whim. We are open to questions about eternity, goodness and beauty. These questions do not replace God; they can lead us towards God.
Questions and explanations
Why do people search for God?
We know our limits yet long for a goodness beyond them. Faith sees this longing as an invitation from our Creator.
Can creation point us towards God?
The beauty and order of creation prompt questions about its origin. Studying nature does not replace revelation, but it can open a path of thoughtful inquiry.
Why does God remain a mystery?
Our language and images are limited. We can speak truthfully about God without pretending that any human concept fully contains God.
What if I have doubts?
Doubts need not be hidden. Conversation, Scripture and prayer can help us distinguish genuine questions from hasty conclusions.
Scripture references
Ps 42:1-2, Acts 17:26-28
In everyday life
When you look at the night sky or witness generosity, ask not only how something happened but also what it reveals about beauty and goodness.
For reflection
- What questions about God have I postponed?
- Can I listen well to someone who thinks differently?
A step to take
Write down one honest question about faith and discuss it with a priest or catechist.
