Parish catechetical course · 06 / 27 · YOUCAT question topics 30–72
I believe in God the Father, Creator
The essential idea
The Church confesses a living and loving Creator, not an impersonal force. Creation is a gift entrusted to our care, while the reality of suffering calls for honest reflection within faith.
Questions and explanations
What does it mean to call God Father?
It speaks of divine care, love and nearness revealed by Christ. God is not limited by imperfect human images of fatherhood.
Does creation conflict with science?
Science investigates how the world develops; theology asks about its ultimate source and meaning. They address different questions and can engage in honest dialogue.
Why does God permit suffering?
There is no formula that explains every tragedy. Christians believe God is not indifferent to pain: in Christ, God enters human suffering and opens a path of hope.
What is the Holy Trinity?
The Church professes one God in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This mystery of communion is revealed by God, not invented as a human diagram.
Scripture references
Gen 1:26-31, Ex 3:13-15, Mt 6:25-34
In everyday life
Caring for nature and helping people means treating the world as a gift with responsibilities, not as unlimited property.
For reflection
- What does calling God Father mean to me?
- How do I care for creation?
A step to take
Read Genesis 1:26–31 and take one concrete action to care for creation.
