Parish catechetical course · 04 / 27 · YOUCAT question topics 20–24
Faith is the human response to God
The essential idea
Faith is not only agreement with statements; it is personal trust in God. It is a free answer to divine love, nourished through prayer and expressed in action.
Questions and explanations
Can anyone be forced to believe?
No. Genuine faith requires a person’s free consent. Loving witness and honest dialogue accomplish more than pressure.
Does doubt mean I have no faith?
Not necessarily. A person can trust God while struggling with hard questions. Honesty, patience and a willingness to learn matter.
How does faith grow?
Faith grows through Scripture, prayer, the sacraments, good works and support from the community. It is more than a private feeling disconnected from others.
Why does faith need good works?
Because trust in Christ changes our treatment of others. Words about love must be accompanied by mercy if our witness is to be whole.
Scripture references
Mk 9:24, Jas 2:14-18
In everyday life
Someone may worship every Sunday yet avoid reconciliation at home. Faith calls us to join prayer with a real change of conduct.
For reflection
- Whom do I trust, and why?
- What action would make my faith visible?
A step to take
Ask God for light about one doubt, then take one step towards reconciliation.
